Honda’s new Jazz city car will cost from £13,495 when it goes on sale in September.

This price tag will buy the entry-level S model, rising to £17,425 for the EX Navi CVT.

A new platform extends the overall length of the latest Jazz by 95mm, Honda claiming class-leading passenger and bootspace, the latter measuring 354 litres with rear seats up, 897 folded down.

The Magic Seat system seen in previous Honda models is also included in the Jazz, which allows a variety of interior layouts and items of up to 2,480mm in length to be accommodated.

Power comes from Honda’s ‘Earth Dreams’ series 1.3-litre i-VTEC petrol engine, rated at 101bhp. Replacing the 1.2 and 1.4-litre units in the previous Jazz it promises the fuel economy of the 1.2 unit with the performance of the 1.4.

The unit is matched to either a six-speed manual gearbox or a newly developed CVT which helps cut CO2 emissions to 106g/km. Honda says that new CVT control software exclusive to Europe simulates seven speeds and provides a more natural ‘multi-gear’ feel in use.

Every Jazz is supplied with a safety package that includes Honda’s City-Brake Active to help avoid low-speed accidents.

Entry-level S models are fitted as standard with air conditioning, cruise control with a speed limiter and dusk-sensing auto lights.

The mid-grade SE model, priced from £14,595, adds front and rear parking sensors, electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors and 15-inch alloy wheels.

Honda’s Driver Assistance Safety Pack is also included, this uses radar sensors and forward and rear-facing cameras to offer five active safety technologies – Forward Collision Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition, Intelligent Speed Limiter, Lane Departure Warning and High-beam Support System.

Range-topping EX models, costing from £15,715, include smart entry and start, automatic climate control and a six-speaker audio upgrade, alongside 16-inch alloy wheels and front fog lamps.

1507_Honda_Jazz_02SE or EX buyers will gain the Honda Connect in-car infotainment system. Based on the Android smartphone operating system, it has an app-based ‘pinch, swipe and tap‘ interface accessed on a seven-inch touchscreen in the centre of the dash.

Pre-installed apps are included, with others available for download from the Honda App Centre and providing internet-based services such as web browsing, real-time traffic information, news and weather, social media, and internet music stations.

Integrated Garmin navigation is available as an option on SE and EX models.

Honda UK head of cars Leon Brannan expects the new Jazz to continue the success of its predecessor – since first introduced in 2001 the Jazz has sold more than five million globally.

“Now in its third generation, Jazz continues to evolve its unique blend of quality, compact exterior dimensions and class-leading interior space,” Brannan says. “With highly competitive list prices from just £13,495 and very affordable PCP packages from £139 per month, we are expecting strong demand,” he adds.

“The greatest strength of Jazz is its broad appeal to different customer segments, and we’re confident this latest generation will only broaden that appeal.”
